SCR is a selective catalytic reduction system and, using AdBlue, is responsible for the almost complete elimination of nitrogen oxide emissions. SCR is mainly designed to convert nitrogen oxides into water vapor.
The SCR is part of the exhaust system and is located directly after the DPF/FAP filter. It consists of an electronic controller with control software, a first NOx sensor, an exhaust gas temperature sensor, an AdBlue injector, a mixer, an SCR catalytic converter, a second NOx sensor and a heated AdBlue tank.
The exhaust gas purification process is simplified as follows: the SCR controller collects data from the sensors on the amount of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gases and the engine load, and on this basis selects the dose of AdBlue, which is injected into the catalyst. Inside the catalytic converter, the harmful nitrogen oxides are decomposed by the urea into nitrogen and water as a result of the reaction. Everything is removed with the flue gases.
